This evening, Fortune magazine released the list of the world’s top 500 in 2020. Judging from the ranking of food and beverage enterprises this year, the food and beverage industry has experienced a new round of “reshuffle”, with some falling out of the list and others on the list for the first time.
Snack agents browse the list and find that compared with last year’s ranking, most of the top 500 food and beverage companies in this year’s ranking have declined. Among the food and beverage fast-moving consumer enterprises on the list, only Coca Cola and its bottling company Fomento econ ó micro Mexico have improved their ranking.
First, let’s search the field of “food: consumer products”.
We can see that there are four multinational food companies on the list this year, namely Nestle, Pepsi, Danone and Yizi international. The ranking of these four companies is consistent with that of last year, but their ranking has declined in the top 500 list, and it has been two years in a row.
It is worth noting that Kraft Heinz, which ranked 472 last year, fell out of the list this year. This reduced the total number of food companies on the list by one compared with five last year.
In the sub list, Nestle continued to be the champion of the food industry with revenue of US $92.106.9 billion (revenue of 2018 listed last year: US $93.515.5 billion), ranking 82nd among the top 500 companies, down 6 places compared with last year.
Snack generation calculation found that Nestle is close to PepsiCo and the total revenue of Danone two giants together.
Under this sub list, PepsiCo, the second largest company, has $67.161 billion in revenue in 2019, ranking 160th among the top 500 companies; Danone ranks 453 with $28.302.7 billion in revenue; Yizi international ranks 495 with $25.868 billion in revenue – which means that if you don’t work hard this year, Yizi will probably “disappear” in the list next year after Kraft Heinz It’s on the list.
If we compare profits, the four top 500 food companies are ranked as Nestle, Pepsi, Yizi international and Danone.
Snack generation noticed that both Nestle and Yizi achieved growth in profits in 2019, but their revenue declined. Danone’s revenue and profits both declined year on year. PepsiCo’s profit fell 41.6% year-on-year, the biggest drop, but it is also the only one among them to achieve year-on-year growth in revenue.
Let’s take a look at the beverage list.
Compared with the food sector, the list and ranking of the top 500 beverage companies this year have not changed. The top two of the beverage list are still the “big ones” of alcoholic drinks and non-alcoholic drinks respectively, including Budweiser InBev and Coca Cola. The remaining two companies on the list are Heineken and Fomento econ ó micro Mexico, the bottling company of Coca Cola.
Among them, Budweiser InBev ranked first with revenue of $53.723 billion; Coca Cola ranked second with revenue of $37.266 billion; and Heineken ranked third with revenue of $26.827.5 billion.
Coca Cola and Heineken both achieved revenue growth, with a year-on-year increase of 17% and a year-on-year growth of 0.8%, while Budweiser InBev was the only one in the list with a revenue decline of 1.6%.
It is worth mentioning that Coca Cola and Fomento econ ó mic Mexico, the bottler of Coca Cola, rose in the top 500, ranking 335 and 482 respectively this year, compared with 395 and 488 last year.
And the other two beer giants, Budweiser InBev and Heineken, fell in the top 500.

According to this year’s fortune list, Unilever ranked 185th (last year: 167) with $58.179 billion in revenue, both revenue and profit declined year on year.

Together with Taiwan enterprises, there are 133 Chinese companies on the list.
“Since the Fortune 500 list was published in 1995, no other country or region has seen such a rapid growth in the number of enterprises.” However, the profitability of Chinese enterprises is low, and Chinese enterprises are facing a new challenge of “from big to strong”, according to fortune.
In addition, fortune pointed out that the operating income of the Fortune 500 enterprises this year reached 33 trillion US dollars, a record high, close to the total GDP of China and the United States. Therefore, if you want to be one of the world’s top 500 companies, the threshold (minimum sales revenue) to be on the list has also increased from US $24.8 billion to US $25.4 billion.
