The Chinese food and beverage giant “out of the circle” overseas, the first to mention the “good for good” model was included in the United Nations report

How are Chinese enterprises participating in promoting sustainable development goals? What are the key areas involved? How to better resist the “new crisis” brought by China’s “new crisis”? Recently, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) released a baseline survey report on the cognition of sustainable development goals (sdgs) in China for the first time.

After the investigation and evaluation of hundreds of companies, the above report includes three enterprise cases including Master Kang’s practice of sustainable development goals.

It is worth noting that Master Kang, as the only food and beverage enterprise selected in the above-mentioned United Nations report, not only put forward the first 3S system (safety, support and sustainability) covering food safety, upstream and downstream industrial chain and sustainable development, but also proposed the mode of “good for good”, that is, by carrying out sustainable development actions beneficial to the environment and society, Master Kang has put forward the mode of “good for good” Bring long-term performance improvement.

“Audition” breakthrough

How does the United Nations Development Programme, which plays the role of “think tank” and mentor in the development of global enterprises, carry out this research and select cases from it?

According to the report, the project was launched in 2019 and lasted about a year. During this period, the United Nations development program conducted a survey on nearly 100 Chinese and foreign enterprises operating in the Chinese market through questionnaires and in-depth interviews, including some of the world’s top 500 companies. After investigation, three enterprises were selected as excellent practice cases and published on the official website of the United Nations in Chinese and English.

In the survey report, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) pointed out in its comments on Master Kang’s practice cases that in the process of building a sustainable global supply chain, Master Kong attaches importance to building a win-win partnership with suppliers from developing countries.

The report also said that in order to improve the overall level of food safety control in the industry, Master Kang actively shared relevant knowledge and experience, and opened its own technology platform to encourage upstream and downstream enterprises to participate in learning and exchange. “Master Kang attaches great importance to extensive cooperation with scientific research and technology institutions, and explores food safety initiatives and technologies through joint research and innovation practices.”

In Master Kang’s opinion, although the “good for good” model has been recognized in foreign countries, there are few practices that put sustainable development goals on the same status as performance growth in China.

The company hopes to take advantage of the selection of the enterprise case in the UN report as an opportunity to show and invite more industries and enterprises to join the development mode of “good for good”.

Building a sustainable industrial chain

In the view of the United Nations development program, partnership not only means stable business partners at home and abroad, but also includes the cooperation between upstream and downstream partners in the industrial chain.

According to the data, Master Kang has entered into many cooperative partnerships in the whole upstream and downstream production chain and supply chain. The “environment friendly vegetable base” established by the company in kangbanuoer, Kangbao County, Hebei Province, is an example.

Xiaoshidai learned that after sending technicians to investigate the local natural environment, Master Kang used its own technology and scale advantages to cooperate with colleges and universities to carry out the research on “active guarantee system of crops” for four years, upgrade and create the industrial chain mode of “enterprise + base + farmers”, and help local farmers to create a comprehensive system by guiding farmers to grow, strictly controlling the quality of production areas and monitoring and monitoring New ecological agriculture.

Last year, Kangnuo agricultural Co., Ltd. acquired 150000 tons of vegetable products and helped farmers in the surrounding areas to establish a total of 150000 tons of vegetables. The environmental friendly vegetable base project not only promotes the upgrading of agricultural technology and the cultivation level of farmers, but also promotes the development of local agricultural circular economy, ensuring the increase of farmers’ income and employment.

As the raw materials used by Master Kang cover almost all fields of agricultural products, the company purchases millions of tons of bulk agricultural products every year, directly benefiting more than 40 million farmers in China.

According to reports, in addition to building a sustainable industrial chain in China, Master Kang has also established a win-win partnership with suppliers from developing countries to build a global sustainable supply chain.

Upgrading corporate social responsibility

For most Chinese enterprises, corporate social responsibility (CSR) is well known. But what is the degree of cognition of Chinese enterprises to the 17 goals of sustainable development (sdgs) proposed by the United Nations Development Program?

According to the above research report, about 89% of Chinese enterprises understand SDG and realize that sustainable development model can not only improve the brand value of the company, but also bring positive social, economic and environmental impacts. At the same time, sustainable development is accompanied by many business opportunities.

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, also proposed earlier this year that sustainable investment would become its new investment standard. The company believes that companies with outstanding performance in important areas of sustainable development will outperform those with poor performance, “they can not only transit calmly in adversity, but also flourish in favorable conditions”.

In recent years, Master Kang has been promoting the upgrading from corporate social responsibility to sustainable development. Last year, it listed the five most influential sdgs across the Master Kang group, including: “zero hunger”, “good health and well-being”, “responsible consumption and production”, “decent work and economic growth” and “partnership for achieving goals”. At the same time, sdgs priorities such as “no poverty”, “quality education”, “clean water and sanitation” and “industry, innovation and infrastructure” have been identified.

In the process of promoting the sustainable development of enterprises, food safety is the core of Master Kang’s efforts.

According to the latest data, Master Kang invested 94 million yuan in food safety and quality control in 2019, with more than 1500 food safety monitoring indicators detected annually, and more than 3.5 million times of quality index inspection. In addition, the signing rate of supplier food safety management agreement was 100%.

As the core organization of Master Kang group in the field of food safety, the food safety management center of the Central Research Institute of the group has invested more than 25 million yuan in 2019.

This year, Shanghai Kangshi Food Technology Co., Ltd. (namely Kangshifu innovation research and Development Center) was also named as the preparatory unit of Shanghai convenient food engineering technology research center by Shanghai Science and Technology Commission. “In the future, Shanghai convenient food engineering technology research center will rely on Shanghai Kangzhi Food Technology Co., Ltd. to play a role in the research and development and innovation of convenient food technology, food safety and risk assessment, popular science education and personnel training, transformation of technical achievements and cooperation and exchange, etc Master Kang also said that Shanghai convenient food engineering technology research center will become an important platform for the group to share food safety technology.

As a matter of fact, Master Kang has shared the TGP detection application and frying control technology jointly developed by himself and Jiangnan University for two years free of charge with the industry, hoping to promote the process of food safety technology in the whole industry, which is one of the reasons why it was selected as the case in this report.

The data showed that the polar components of edible oil in frying process were controlled at about 16%, which was far lower than the requirement that the polar components of edible oil in frying process should not exceed 27% in China’s latest national food safety standard provisions on vegetable oil.
